Looking for Snow in Washington? Here’s Where You Need to Go

Are you planning a wintertime adventure in Washington? There are plenty of places where you can go to enjoy the great outdoors over the next few months. Here are just a few examples of some of our favorite places to find snow in Washington State within driving distance of Seattle:

• Stevens Pass Ski Resort: Stevens Pass is one of a couple ski resorts located relatively close to Seattle. It’s known for great downhill skiing options and Nordic ski trails, as well as sledding and snowshoeing. The sledding and tubing areas are free to use, and located close to a food and restroom stop in the Cascade Depot Lodge. Its snowshoeing trails are very well maintained and ideal for people of all skill and experience levels, but you’ll need to purchase a trail pass from the Cascade Depot before you’re able to use them.
• The Summit at Snoqualmie: About an hour outside of Seattle, this winter wonderland features some of the best snow tubing you’ll find in the region. It has 12 groomed lanes for tubing, and hills the length of a football field. You’re able to use commercial-grade tubes and then get towed back to the top so you don’t tire yourself out too quickly. There are also options for downhill skiing, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing, so you can choose your own winter adventure.
• Hurricane Ridge: In Olympic National Park you’ll find Hurricane Ridge, a snow-covered option for cross-country and downhill skiing, tubing, snowboarding and plenty of other winter activities. You can grab snacks and warm up in the visitor’s center. While the ski area is smaller than some of the other options on this list, it still provides plenty of enjoyment. Plus, tubes are provided at no cost to you, so you don’t need to bring your own tube!
• Rainier’s Paradise Visitor’s Center: The Snowplay section at Paradise Visitor’s Center on Mt. Rainier is a great place to go for some winter fun! There are some bring-your-own sledding and tubing areas, though there needs to be at least five feet of snow for them to be open, so make sure you check the website before you visit. You can also go on ranger-led snowshoeing adventures on the mountain, taking off daily a couple times a day through March. You’ll need to get a park pass for that snowshoeing adventure and will need to have chains on your car to park during the winter.
• Crystal Mountain Ski Resort: This is your classic ski resort featuring everything you could ask for in a winter adventure, including downhill skiing, guided snowshoe tours and some great dinner options. You’ll even be able to enjoy some drinks from local wineries and breweries! If you’re not interested in skiing or simply need a break from the slopes, you can check out the gondola rides that allow you to soak in the mountain views.
